Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which it may reach another party. By using Taylor County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to answer and manage the correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems receive routine technical details when a page loads:

  • Page-view times and referring site, when available
  • Pages opened and the length of each visit
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser type and version
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. Along with analytics services, they help measure overall traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing faults and maintaining performance
  • Routing a search to the provider that handles it
  • Measuring which pages are useful and which need improvement
  • Operating and securing the site
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Taylor County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Taylor County Sheriff, local court clerks, WVSP Criminal Identification Bureau, WVDCR, and West Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules govern information entered there. Review the applicable provider policy before submitting a query because we do not control those practices.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Taylor County offices, West Virginia courts and agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their systems to measure activity across websites and tailor ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners receiving a query through their tool
  • Advertising networks serving ads
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices protect the information we handle. No internet system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, it can be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights may differ with a visitor's location. West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., governs access to public-body records, while §15-2-24 governs WVSP criminal-history dissemination. Those laws do not convert this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek a copy of personal information held about you
  • Opt out of processing where the law provides that choice
